Senator Ben Gilmore shares thoughts on RNC visit
Senator Ben Gilmore has shared his thoughts following his visit to the Republican National Convention. His thoughts are shared below:
USA! USA! USA! The chanting from the Republican National Convention still rings in my ears. A convention where the theme of national unity, conservative principles, and most importantly honoring our almighty God for his blessings on our nation reigned supreme. We are the party that recognizes that America is the greatest country in the world, and we are proud of it! We are the party that protects the lives of the unborn, defends the foundation of the family, and promotes traditional family values. The party that lowers taxes to help everyday working Americans by putting more of their hard-earned money back in their pockets. The party that backs our law enforcement and believes in keeping violent criminals off our streets. The party that supports Israel and stands with our allies to defend democracy and fight against tyranny. The party that will secure our southern border and defend our sovereignty. The party that still believes in preserving the American Dream. It is clear, the Republican Party is the party for the people of America.
During the convention, we heard heartbreaking stories from families affected by the awful Biden/Harris policies. Many of the Gold Star families who lost loved ones serving in our military during the disastrous Biden withdrawal from Afghanistan addressed the convention. The parents of Omer Neutra, an American Israeli hostage, implored the Biden/Harris administration to bring home the hostages. Families who have had family members murdered because of Vice President Kamala Harris’ ineptitude over our open border shared their tragedies. Real, everyday Americans, who love and serve our country opened their hearts and spoke to us and shared the painful heartbreaks they have endured because of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ failures to the American people. We listened intently, mourned with them, and supported them, and stood in solemn solidarity with them.
We also heard from the greatest generation, Sgt. William Pekrul, a decorated World War II veteran who fought with the 29th infantry in the second wave during the Normandy Invasion on D-Day. His words held so much more meaning as said of the Biden/Harris administration, “It hurts my heart to see what our current president and vice president have done to the country I love so well… [with] President Trump back as commander in chief, I would go back to re-enlist today and I would storm whatever beach my country needs me to.” This was a strong and convincing speech from someone who is the reason we live in the freest and greatest country in the world.
One of the highlights of the convention was our very own Governor, Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Her strength and influence were on full display to the American people. Thankfully Arkansas is one of the few states with a strong conservative governor during the Biden/Harris administration. Arkansas has deployed the National Guard to assist at the border, she is the first governor to kick communist China off Arkansas farmland. We passed legislation to empower parents to decide the best educational option for their kids because we understand that parents know best, and we cut taxes to give Arkansans a break from “Bidenflation.” Arkansans should be proud of our state, our governor, and the legislators that voted for these conservative policies. We heard from Senator Tom Cotton, who is an expert on foreign policy and one of the boldest voices in defending our borders and stopping China and Russia. Arkansas was on full display, and I heard from many people who wished they lived in our great state.
Throughout the convention, it was clear the Republican party was united after the assassination attempt on President Donald J. Trump. His speech was one of humility, strength, and gratefulness for the providence of God. We are the party that believes in American exceptionalism and our party principles protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We must be united against the enemy trying to destroy the fabric of our country, and continue to increase our majority in the U.S. House, win the U.S. Senate, and take back the White House. It is imperative that all Arkansans and Americans go vote for the party with policies that strengthen America, puts power back in the hands of Americans, protects life, defends the institution of the family, and recognizes that all our blessing come from the almighty God. If these are the principles that you believe in, then go vote Republican in November. But more importantly, we are a nation in need of God’s grace and a country that needs to humble itself before an almighty God. As this election approaches, please join me in seeking God’s face, and praying for an awakening that brings us back to Him.
